Max Banner Ads

A Must Have for your web site!

As an online business owner and Web Designer, one of the best and most common ways of creating an income from your website is through Advertising.

To this end I have been using several Ad Placement Plug-ins for some time, both Open Source (free to use) and Premium/Commercial Products. That is until I discovered Max Banner Ads from MaxBlogPress.

Max Banner Ads, even in the Free To Use version, does everything all these other plug-ins do COMBINED!

MaxBanner Ads allows for Randomly Rotating, Multiple Ad Placements, either above, below or within Posts or used in Sidebar Widget. You can see these displayed within this post and to the left in the Sidebar Titled “SPONSORS.”

You can easily create your own banners by uploading an image from your computer, or by entering the HTML/JavaScript codes for any Affiliate Products you may be promoting.

Another great feature with Max Banner Ads is its tracking ability, both Impressions and Clicks, so you can monitor which ads are performing at a glance. helping you to optimize your Ad Placement and improve your visitors experience.

Here’s what the provider says

Statistics have long shown that….

“Rotating your advertisement banners can defeat banner blindness and increases CTR.”

But..

One of the issue about banner advertisement on WordPress blog is the banner ad management.

Normally adding banner ads will need you to edit your WordPress theme, mess with lots of codes and even then you won’t have the result as you want.

This is pretty tedious and time consuming if you have to go through all the codes just to add some banners.

Wouldn’t it be great if:

* You had the power to easily place your banner ads in any position you want to on your blog?

* You could track your banners, find out how good they really are doing?

* You could rotate your banners in multiple spots and transform your WordPress blog into advertising gold.

Above all what if you didn’t even have to worry about editing your WordPress theme to do all of this?

What if all of this could be done with one powerful and easy plugin?

That is where Max Banner Ads comes into play. Adding, controlling, and tracking the banners on your blog has never been more easier or more powerful with the Max Banner Ads WordPress Plugin.

A Must Have for your website!
Max Banner Ads PRO normally sells for $47 and it’s among one of our best selling plugins.

By having Max Banner Ads PRO WordPress plugin, you can show your banner ads without having to include “Powered by link..” like the way it is required in the free version.

So, how exactly can you get your hands on it?

WordPress: Blogging for YOUR Business

I had an absolutely amazing day yesterday, thanks to the attendees at my “WordPress: Blogging for Your Business” Workshop.

I was a bit apprehensive as this was my first workshop with my own content.  I have been a tutor since 2001, yet never was so much at stake.

I suppose it was not just about delivering course content and value, it was about giving myself permission to be worthwhile.

If I was to single out any one element of the day that will remain with me was the willingness and eagerness of everyone there to actively participate, question and question more.  I had said the day was about the attendees and not about me – They held me too it and made the day so easy.

They also provided me with some excellent constructive feedback and ideas that the next time I deliver this course it will be charged with INCREDIBLE VALUE!

Keep an eye out.

I wish to extend a HUGE thank you to Marie O’Riordan for being there.  Marie deferred a trip to Seville to attend my workshop (at least that’s what I will tell myself :) ) and honoured me with presenting a “High-Octane,” “Super-Charged” Presentation on Communications and PR – there is no doubt Marie is one person who knows what she is talking about and means business.  When Marie talks one would be wise to listen!

Anyway, for those who don’t know what the course was about, here’s my quick blurb:

“WordPress: Blogging for YOUR Business” Workshop aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to create and maintain your own website and blog – demystifying the technical stuff and giving you full autonomy over your online presence and business.

“WordPress: Blogging for YOUR Business” Workshop  also aims to show how you can monetize your site and create passive income streams while adding value to your visitors experience.

Here’s what some of my guests had to say at the end.

WP Greet Box – Useful Tip/Technique

Had a thought for a Tip that might be of benefit to  WordPress site owners.
It’s simple in it’s implementation, obvious, yet I can find no trace of anyone implementing this technique.

‘WP Greet Box’ allows a customised Welcome message to be displayed to site visitors in posts or pages based on the referring URL of the visitor.
For example, for someone coming to your site after clicking on your link in Facebook would get a message like, “Welcome Facebook Friend…”
Even nicer, this message is enclosed in a nice, “Rounded Corner with Drop Shadow” Box so looks nice too.
The messages are completely editable and accept HTML.

Now I was messing around with this last night and reckoned,
“Sure why don’t I put up the HTML for an Opt-In related to a product based on the referring URL?”
That way, a visitor from Facebook may get an Opt-In related to a product I own about Facebook.
Similar for Twitter, LinkedIn, or any referring URL you define.  What a way to target products?!

Could also work brilliantly for JV products.
You can add your own Referring URLs and Messages so visitors to your site from a JV partner, or similar get presented with products specific to their interests.

Guess what?  It works a Charm!

You can see an example on this site if you come directly, i.e., not referred.  I haven’t gotten around to doing the others yet (it was very late last night :) )

If this Tip/Technique helps even one person, then job well done.

WordPress 3 released!

WordPress 3 has finally been released. You can download it at http://www.wordpress.org.

I of course upgraded immediatedly and guess what?  An issue I was having with my autoresponder got solved.  And here was I thinking it was me :)

Occasionally, different Plug-Ins can conflict with each other in terms of calling the WP_HOOK, specifically calling the wp_head() function and priority given to each application.  This was the issue I was having.  WordPress 3 seems to have solved my problem for me – either that or I am better then I thought I was :)

Here’s what WordPress have to say.

Arm your vuvuzelas: WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard).

Major new features in this release include a sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten. Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. (Twenty Ten theme shows all of that off.)

Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation.

As a user, you will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click, and blah blah blah just watch the video. :) (In HD, if you can, so you can catch the Easter eggs.)

Here’s a post from Information Week.com. Article courtesy of Allen Stern

An important change with WordPress 3.0 (the “Thelonious” release) is the merge of the individual and multiple-user (MU) versions. The new functionality, called multi-site, will allow blog administrators to manage one or any number of blogs from one install. This will be awesome for me as I currently administer four WordPress blogs and keeping all of them updated and in sync takes a good amount of time and effort. Now I will be able to run all four blogs from one WordPress installation.   My only concern with this new multi-site functionality is if a hacker is able to get into the site, they could potentially attack all of the blogs more easily than the current individual blog setup.

A new default blog template named Twenty Ten comes standard with WordPress 3.0. The new template replaces the old default template and features a refined look along with more customization options than before.

On the admin side, the look is brighter than the old version and a new theme API will allow developers to, “easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies.”   The new administration section also allows blog administrators the ability to update WordPress core files and plugins at the same time. You can create a short URL for new blog posts using your favorite URL shortener. The short URL can be shared on social networking services.

The only major security announcement is the ability to customize the main “admin” user. This has been one of the most popular ways for hackers to attack a WordPress blog so it’s good to see that it’s now easy to change the username versus the old method which involved editing the raw database.

All in all, there were 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements made to the new WordPress 3.0.

So all you WordPressers out there – Enjoy!

Hello from Windows Live Writer

THANKSAnyone out there who is into blogging has go to get their hands on this piece of Software.

It is free from Microsoft – just type “Windows Live Writer” into your browser search bar (or use my link).

It is fully WYSIWYG, unlike WordPress’ own Tiny MCE editor (which is a serious pain).

Many features not available in WordPress – check it out.

You can do so much with photos, drop shadows, Polaroid style, tilt, rotate etc etc – and so much more.

As you type you see your post as it will appear on your blog.

Just amazing. I should have discovered this ages ago.

Just like WordPress, there are loads of plugins….

Best part – you do not even need to log into your account – blog from your desktop, anytime, any place – save drafts and publish whenever you want (or have an internet connection.

10 YouTube Tricks You Should Know

YouTube Logo

YouTube – You know that site with videos and all. Yeah! It turns out that its quite popular and you happen to visit and use it quite often. Instead of just searching and playing here are some top YouTube URL tricks that you should know about:

1. View high quality videos

YouTube gives you the option to switch to high quality videos for some of the videos, however you can check if a video is available in high quality format by appending ‘&fmt=18′(stereo, 480 x 270 resolution) or ‘&fmt=22′(stereo, 1280 x 720 resolution) for even higher quality.

2. Embed Higher Quality Videos

While the above trick works for playback, if however you want to embed high quality videos you need to append “&ap=%2526fmt%3D18″ and “&ap=%2526fmt%3D22″ to the embed url.

3. Cut the chase and link to the interesting part

Linking to a video where the real action starts at 3 minutes 22 seconds, wondered if you could make it start at 03:22? You are in luck. All you have to do is add #t=03m22s (#t=XXmYYs for XX mins and YY seconds) to the end of the URL.

4. Hide the search box

Disable YouTube Search Bar

The search box appears when you hover over an embedded video. To hide the search box add ‘&showsearch=0′ to the embed url.

5. Embed only a part of Video

Set Start Point

Just append ‘&start=30′ to skip first 30s of the video. In general you can modify the value after start= to the number of seconds you want to skip the video for.

6. Autoplay an embedded video

Normally when you embed a YouTube video and load the page, the player is loaded and it sits there waiting for you to hit the play button. You can make the video play automatically by adding ‘&autoplay=1′ to the url part of the embed code.

7. Loop an embedded video

Append ‘&loop=1′ to make the video start again without user intervention after it reaches the end.

8. Disable Related Videos

Disable Related Videos

Publishing your content in the form of YouTube video? Don’t want people to see other people’s content that may be related but may as well be in competition to you? Just add ‘&rel=0′ to the end of the url part of the embed code and you just turned off the related video suggestions!

9. Bypass YouTube Regional Filtering

Some videos are only available in certain parts of the world. Your IP Address is used to determine your location and then allow or deny access to the video. Change the url from http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=<somecode> to http://www.YouTube.com/v/<somecode>

10. Download Video

Although not inherently a YouTube trick but useful all the same for downloading videos. Just change YouTube to kickYouTube in the url of the video and it will take you to kickYouTube.com with all the options for downloading the video you were watching.
